Rectangle shaped, rustic soap holders made from botay coconut twigs, and hand-fastened with sturdy (and water-resistant) abaca twine. Also available in square size.
Botay – pronounced “boh tie”- – is the native Visayan name for the coconut flower spikelets used in our table runners, coasters and soap holders.
We work with a family that collects the botay twigs and hand-fastens the twigs with natural abaca twine.
Coconut Botay is abundant in the coconut producing regions of the Philippine Islands. It is a material that would otherwise be a waste product from Copra — the dried coconut meat used to make coconut oil.
About the Coconut Tree (Cocos Nucifera): In the Philippines, the coconut tree is referred to as The Tree of Life. Practically all parts of the coconut, from the trunk, the fruit to the leaves and fronds are used locally or for a commercial purpose.
We feature rustic table runners, coasters, and soap holders made from coconut botay. We also make napkin rings from coconut wood. And coming soon, more products from this tree of life!
